Delaware Bay Fishing Report: Decent Action With Few Anglers

I spoke with Shirley at Donovan’s Dock in Bower’s Beach today and the boat has been running and doing well with the flounder. However, few anglers have been fishing. This is actually an opportunity for anglers to get out and fish uncrowded decks for big flatties. The Delaware minimum size flounder is 18-1/2 inches, and when you land one of these big flatties, you have quite a meal.

Shirley said that the boat is running most every day, and the Reliable II, a headboat, only charges a fare of $45.

Delaware Bay Fishing Report: Croaker Bite Continues

Shirley aboard the Reliable out of Bower’s Beach said that the boat fished yesterday, and the croaker bite fell off a bit. They still caught some croakers and some nice size keeper flounder were caught with several shorts. Joe Piechotta won the onboard fish pool with the largest keeper flounder and turned right around and caught another keeper.

She said that Seaford, Delaware resident Fay Griffith her Monthly Mega Monster Pot Cash money which totaled $164.00 for the month of June. Fay also won the onboard fish pool with her 5.5-pound flounder which was $64.00 for that day. She added that Fay is also in the running with her big flounder for the Annual Mega Monster Cash Pot, which is currently $240.00 and continues to grow.

Bower's Beach Flounder Action Continues

Shirley aboard the Reliable II said that Sunday morning started off with lots of Headboater enthusiasts who had one thing on their mind — winning the Reliable’s June Mega Monster Cash Pot Contest.

The June Mega Monster Cash Pot had jumped to $149.00. Several flounder shorts were caught and a heartbreaking almost close legal flounder was caught by Fay Griffith, which was 18 1/4″ long and thrown back.

Not a one croaker was caught or even seen. Finally, cries of “Fish On” broke the silence. Fay Griffith from Seaford, Delaware hooked into a big one. At first, she thought it was a skate, because it did not want to come off of the bottom.

The flattie put up one heck of a fight and ran several times. Fay was in complete control and handled the fight like a pro. Fay’s Flounder weighed in at 5-1/2 pounds and 25 inches in length. Congratulations to Fay.

Fay also won the onboard fish pool which was quite large with her flounder. Shirley said that she is sending a challenge to all of you guys out there in computer land, she said that she hopes you are not going to let a sweet little lady beat you out of this month’s Cash Pot.

As of the last day in June, if no one else beats Fay’s Flounder, Fay will be the winner. The Mega Monster Cash Pot Contest for the Month of July will start this coming Wednesday. The annual Mega Monster Cash Pot Contest is over $200.00 and will only get bigger as the 2009 fishing season gets underway.

The annual cash pot will be worth several hundred dollars and may be over $1,000 by season’s end.

Starting Wednesday, July 1, the Monthly Cash Pot Contest will start all over again. The annual Cash Pot keeps rolling over and over to the end of the Fishing season.

Shirley aboard the Reliable out of Bowers Beach, Delaware recently told us about the boat’s “Mega Monster Cash Pot Contest” This is doing really well and everyone is so excited about it. The pool increases every day of the month, and is currently up to $160. The next monthly cash pot should be well over $200. Not bad for a day’s fishing.

The way that it works is simple. Every day, the largest pool fish is entered into the contest. At the end of the contest, the largest flattie wins. Pretty simple.

Big Flatties Coming From Delaware Bay

Shirley Donovan of the Reliable II out of Bowers Beach, DE indicates that big flounder are coming from the Delaware Bay. Customer John holds a citation 7-pound flounder that he caught aboard the Reliable II. John is totally blind -great work John.
